Thoughts on Thanksgiving— Meet Doug Custer, Financial Advisor & Shareholder
I’ve been blessed beyond measure in innumerable ways: a loving wife and family; an energetic golden retriever; many deep friendships; a wonderful church community; health; a beautiful home in the great Pacific Northwest; a love of the outdoors; a love of the arts, literature, languages, wine, food, culture, and travel; a rewarding professional career; the Seattle Sounders winning the MLS Cup; and the list goes on. When asked to write a piece on Thanksgiving, I was initially so overwhelmed by all that I’m thankful for that I didn’t quite know where to begin.
Then it hit me, the beginning point is unpacking the word itself: Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for giving. I’m thankful for the privilege of being able to give. I’m thankful for the joy it brings others and myself. I’m thankful for the invitations and opportunities that have presented themselves over the years to serve and give back, to be part of and lose myself in causes and communities immeasurably greater than myself. I’m thankful for the people who’ve extended those invitations, either explicitly, or implicitly by their example. I’m thankful for those who’ve come alongside and mentored me in the practice of giving of my time, talents, and resources. I’m also honored and thankful to have the privilege of encouraging others in their giving. I’m thankful daily for being on the receiving end of the generosity of others. I’m thankful for everyone who gives. I’m thankful for giving.
