Brian is a Shareholder and Chief Investment Officer at Viridian, focusing on the firm’s goals-based asset allocation portfolios.
As CIO, Brian is responsible for the firm’s investment decision making process including maintenance of the firm’s investment philosophy, research, due diligence, and analysis. He believes in an evidenced-based approach to investing, focusing on stacking the odds in favor of the client as often as possible.
Brian entered the investment advisory world when he began work as a portfolio manager for Appropriate Balance in 2011, a position he held until Appropriate Balance’s merger with Viridian in 2017. He has been quoted in numerous publications, including Business Week and The Wall Street Journal, and his work has been featured on StockTwits. Prior to Viridian and Appropriate Balance, he worked in Tacoma, WA, managing equity portfolios, forming an angel investing organization, and making private equity investments for a family office.
Brian was born and raised in the Seattle area and holds a B.B.A. degree from Pacific Lutheran University. As a habitual early-adopter of new technology, an avid podcast listener, and devoted reader, Brian lives life as a perpetual student, absorbing as much as he can from others.
Brian is a huge sports fan who can usually be found wishing the Mariners would prioritize winning over profitability and feel good moments. He is married to Holly and has two kids, Cooper, and Reese.
