Doug Custer, CFP®, CAP®
For over 25 years, Doug has helped many families and organizations with their financial planning and investment management needs. Much of his practice includes working with professional practitioners and business owners. In addition to investment management, his areas of focus include retirement and estate planning as well as helping clients explore and implement planned giving strategies.
Before joining ABFS, now Viridian, in 2011, Doug worked as a Financial Consultant with Charles Schwab for 15 years. Prior to his career in finance, he worked for several years in the fine wine industry and served in the U.S. Army. In addition to holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from University of Maryland University College, he holds the Certified Financial Planner™ and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy™ designations. Seattle Magazine named him a “Five Star Wealth Manager, Best in Client Satisfaction” in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Doug’s community involvement includes currently serving on the board of the Alpine Educational Foundation; as an advisory board member of the Northwest Symphony Orchestra; and as a member of the Planned Giving Advisory Council for the Overlake Medical Center Foundation. Formerly he served on the boards of Homeward pet Adoption Center and Lahai Health. Doug enjoys reading classical literature, history, and studying languages. He’s an avid soccer fan and outdoors enthusiast who enjoys hiking, running, snowshoeing, cycling and kayaking. A former competitive long-distance runner, Doug completed several marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 1992. He and his wife love to travel and live in Lake Forest Park, Washington.
